        1. Malta U-Turns and Says it WILL Accept the NHS App as Proof of Vaccination

Malta, recently added to the UK's green list for travel, has reversed its decision to only allow paper certificates certificates delivered by post as proof that UK tourists are fully vaccinated.

The U-turn came around 24 hours after its decision to disallow the NHS app as proof of vaccination status brought swift condemnation from travellers who had booked tickets to Malta only to find themselves unable to travel as the paper certification takes up to 5 days to arrive.

A statement on the Visit Malta website reads:

As from today, 1st July 2021, Malta will be accepting the digital app version of the UK NHS vaccine certificate, as well as the paper version of the certificate. This update came following the creation of a verifier app, created by the Maltese Authorities, which allows airlines and health officials to verify the authenticity of the UK digital certificate presented by tourists before entering Malta.

People coming from the United Kingdom will only be allowed to enter Malta upon the presentation of a vaccine certificate recognized by the Superintendent for Public Health.

Malta still requires all travellers over the age of 12 to prove they have been fully vaccinated. As children between 12-17 are not being offered the vaccine in the UK, this means that children in this age group cannot - at the time of publishing - travel to Malta, even with a negative PCR test. Children aged 5-11 can travel with a fully vaccinated parent or guardian and a negative PCR test result taken less than 72 hours prior to departure. Children under 5 need neither vaccines nore PCR tests.

Those who wish to request a proof-of-vaccination letter in case of future travel problems (smartphones run ot of charge, after all) can do so online at www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-pass/get-your-covid-pass-letter, or by calling the NHS enquiry line on 119. The website states that it should be received within five working days.
